Ubuntu 13.10 – How to configure Chinese Input Method?

(1) Download & install required packages:

Goto “System Settings”
> “Language Support”
> “Install / Remove Languages”
> “Chinese (simplified)” or other Chinese options. It will take some times to download & install relevant packages.
> Choose “IBus” at “Keyboard input method system”
> Click “close”

(2) Configure Input Methods:
Choose “Text Entry” at “System Settings”

> Choose “+” at “Input sources to use”
> Search for “English (US)”
> Click “Add”

> Choose “+” at “Input sources to use”
> Search for “Chinese (Pinyin)” or other input method
> Click “Add”

> Click on the editable box on “Switch to next source using”
> Press “Ctrl” + “Space”

> Click on the editable box on “Switch to previous source using”
> Press “Alt” + “Shift L”

> Check “Show current input source in the menu bar”
> Close the “Text Entry”

(3) You will see there is an Input Method “En” icon on menu bar. You may use “Ctrl” + “Space” switch to next input methold that you have pre-set.
