For the basic ASM configuration ASM 11gR2 is supported on release RHEL 4 but if you have plans to enable ACFS, then you require RHEL 5 / OE5 or higher due to ACFS will not work on release RHEL 4, see the next output from a RHEL 4 Linux box trying to start the ACFS driver:
+ASM:oracle:GRID_11gR2> id
